LA CASA AZUL BOOKSTORE TO COMMEMORATE EAST HARLEM
LITERARY LEGENDS WITH PUBLIC ART INSTALLATION

Multidisciplinary artist Manny Vega
will install a public art piece at La Casa Azul Bookstore
this Sunday. Manny’s latest piece portrays a literary
sanctuary that includes portraits of three East Harlem writers, Julia de
Burgos, Pedro Pietri and Piri Thomas.
East Harlem is home to multiple works by Manny, including a mosaic
mural portrait of Julia De Burgos, a series of mosaic panels for the 110 street
train station, and murals like “The Spirit of East Harlem”. Manny’s art is
greatly appreciated and respected by the community, youth, schools and local
organizations and is known to attract visitors and tourists who come to East
Harlem in order to enjoy his street art, mural and other projects.

Manny Vega:
Manny Vega is a painter, illustrator,
printmaker, muralist, and set and costume designer. His work portrays the
history and traditions of the African Diaspora that exist in the United States,
the Caribbean, and Latin America and has been exhibited extensively in the
United States, Puerto Rico, and Brazil. Manny has a deep commitment to the
preservation of our historical existence as well as innovation to reflect
present day influences. His devotion to craftsmanship, together with his
appreciation for history have created a unique and important body of work that
portray the humanity and dignity of a people in these times. Manny has taught
for organizations such as El Museo del Barrio, Arts Connection, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the American Museum of Natural History,
